Quality Assurance Tech (Temporary)

General Position Summary

Responsible for providing support in the identification, development and deployment of specifications, special controls, tests, inspections, validations, and verifications, necessary to assure the quality of the Company's products.

Essential Job Functions

Quality Support Activities

- Actively participates in the maintenance and improvement of the company’s Quality/Business System with the

“ownership” of job specific process maps and participation of related processes and teams.

Purchase Order Review

- Provides support to assure compliance of products received to products ordered.

Supplier Qualification

- Supports Materials Management in the evaluation, selection, monitoring and measurement of supplier quality.

Inspection

- Performs mechanical, electrical and chemical inspection and verification of received products, using drawings and specifications, statistical analysis, and measuring equipment.

- Prepares product inspection instructions.

- Establishes visual inspection reports to show inspection and non-conformance trends.

- Investigates and purges stock of discrepant parts and materials.

- Assists in determination of departmental responsibilities for defect prevention.

- Provides support in measuring and test equipment calibration and maintenance to assure product conformance.

- Assists in the controlled release of urgently needed material prior to completion of receiving activities.

Information Management & Reporting Activities

- Performs data analysis.

- Provides feedback by preparing charts, graphs, reports and other methods of communication as to how well the Quality System is working.

- Provides support in review, analysis and input to Specifications, Blueprints, ECR's, ECO's, Technical Manuals, Bulletins, Advertisements, and etc.

- Process Proving. Participates in Engineering Tryouts and Cut-ins. Assists in the identification and development of special controls, test and skill requirements necessary for assuring product quality. Aids in the development and documentation of inspection check points and methods. Provides support relating to reliability of design, and usability.

- Process Control. Provides support in initiation, audits and verifications of compliance of processes prior to first product acceptance.

- Assists in field failures analysis, and corrective action. Provides liaison to Product Support and Technical Services Departments.

- Training. Assists in training programs to insure that personnel who may impact product quality are qualified to perform their special functions.

Essential Job Requirements

Education

- Associates degree (A.A.) in Engineering, or other progressive discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Additional course work in quality and quantitative methods a plus.

Experience & Minimum Qualifications

- Three to five years of previous work experience in inspection or auditing.

- Ability to use a personal computer and software for technical documentation and data analysis.

- Ability to write reports, chart data and provide other technical documentation.

- Ability to meet project deadlines and work within budgetary constraints.

- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management.

- Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

- Ability to deal with problems involving product failure, analysis and remedial actions.

- Ability to get along well with diverse personalities. Must be tactful and flexible.

- Ability to use standard office and inspection equipment.

Assembler

General Position Summary

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of electromechanical or mechanical production sub-assembly and assembly operations to build up and assemble difficult and complex instruments. Duties may include following techniques to wire, prepare cable harnesses and install cable harnesses.

Essential Job Functions

- Under general supervision, performs various tasks requiring knowledge of assembly techniques, tools, materials, machines and equipment.

- Assembles electromechanical instruments or fabricated parts to make subassemblies or complete instruments using hand tools, power tools and special tools and/or calibration equipment.

- Determines methods and sequence of assembly operations where complete information is not readily available or follows assembly shop and production operations sheets, wire lists, samples, blue prints, schematics and verbal instructions to perform a wide variety of assembly operations.

- Fits, aligns, calibrates and adjusts parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product operating and quality requirements.

- Works from engineering drawings, rough sketches, and manuals, verbal or written instructions from Lead Assembler or Supervisor.

- Performs in-process and final quality inspection of assembled products.

- Examines drawings and work orders to determine the work that needs to be performed.

- Utilizes appropriate machines and tools to install, mount, fasten, align and adjust parts, components, wiring and harnesses.

- Examines and tests assembly at various stages of production to identify errors.

- Maintains a record of the assembly process, progress and problems.

- Provides feedback to supervisor when a deviation from accepted practice or safety issues are recognized.

- Utilizes small hand tools such as wire strippers, crimpers, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and hammers.

- Identifies and selects components to be integrated into sub-assembly and assembly units.

- Makes own set-ups, alignments and adjustments maintaining tolerance in accordance with instructions.

- Disassembles, modifies, reworks, refurbishes, reassembles, and tests instruments as required.

- Evaluates and recommends changes in methods and procedures in assigned area of responsibility.

- Seeks constant improvement in work processes and techniques.

- Assures that assembly areas are in an orderly and functional condition.

- Suggests improvement in departmental work processes and procedures.

- Maintains good communications with peers, Lead Assembler and Supervisor.

- Attends and participates in group meetings, task force groups, etc., as needed.

- Works with Support Engineering to develop and maintain time standards.

- Aids Support Engineering with design of assemblies and units for manufacturing capability.

- Performs other duties and projects as assigned by Supervisor and/or Lead Assembler.

Education

High school diploma, GED or equivalent education and experience.

Experience & Minimum Qualifications

- 4-6 years of assembly experience in a fast paced manufacturing environment

- Ability to follow schematics and assemble wire harnesses is a must.

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, engineering prints and schematics.

- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals using a calculator.

- Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

- Ability to use standard power hand tools and custom tools, gauges, and other calibration equipment and assembly fixtures.

- Ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds is an asset

- Strong organizational skills through demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage time

- Established collaboration skills and the ability to communicate with openness and transparency.

- Ability to comply with FDA Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

- Ability to meet production schedules.

- Exposure and training to Six Sigma and/or lean manufacturing preferred.

Quality Engineer

General Position Summary

Designs and coordinates the effective implementation of quality/reliability goal oriented programs supporting the pre-production, production and post production phases of operations under moderate guidance and supervision. Studies engineering drawings, specifications and user requirements to determine appropriate quality procedures and techniques are applied to assure cost-effective compliance with tolerances, material standards and product performance requirements. Supports company-wide implementation of continuous improvement programs.

Essential Job Functions

Quality Engineering Activities

- Prepares quality plans, procedures and instructions in accordance with QA policies and stated requirements of specific program contract specifications.

- Participates in design/process reviews, evaluates the need for possible inspection tooling and/or test equipment.

- Reviews manufacturing and assembly planning for appropriate sequenced quality requirements. Prepares appropriate check lists for quality control points throughout the manufacturing/assembly processes.

- Act as direct quality liaison with Engineering, Manufacturing, Assembly, Procurement, suppliers and customers.

- Performs investigative research with discrepant materials and quality processes; compiles information, analyzes issues related to the root causes and initiates corrective action. Monitors and reports progress on failure analyses, corrective and preventive actions.

- Develops improvements in, or designs new work methods and procedures for testing and inspecting the quality level of products and production equipment.

- Initiates appropriate identification of quality problems and identification and implementation of corrective action required.

- Monitors and verifies the completion and effectiveness of corrective actions committed to customers or resulting from internal deficiencies.

- Develops, performs and reports quality auditing activities for internal and external (suppliers) processes; audits performance of suppliers, manufacturing, assembly, and inspection operations.

- Performs material review and disposition of discrepant items discovered at all stages of production. Participates on corrective action board, failure review board and continuous improvement committee.

- Ensures customer and supplier issues are expeditiously addressed.

- Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned by management.

Information Management & Reporting Activities

- Coordinates a variety of information with both internal and external personnel.

- Collects, evaluates and summarizes information for the purpose of reporting to management to assist with the decision making process.

- Plans, coordinates and prepares a variety of reports, surveys, research information and any special informational requests made by management.

- Coordinates and oversees constant improvement in departmental work processes, quality procedures, etc.

- Assists in business related activities of Sakura Finetek.

Essential Job Requirements

Education

B.S. in Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience & Minimum Qualifications

- One (1) to three (3) years experience in manufacturing environment with a minimum of two (2) years as Quality Engineer.

- ASQ certification as Quality Engineer or Six Sigma Black Belt desired.

- Must be familiar with ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 requirements.

- Medical device manufacturing experience preferred.

- Good analytical and problem resolution skills related to electro-mechanical products and manufacturing processes.

- Good knowledge and skills in the use of advanced personal computer productivity programs for word processing, spreadsheets, database manipulation and flow charts.

- Demonstrates reasoning ability and decision making skills to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

- Demonstrate the ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables for problem solving activities.

Product Engineer

General Position Summary

Entry level engineer performs a variety of engineering assignments based on general instructions and guidance from supervisor and/or senior lever engineer. Must be able to solve problems by applying knowledge of engineering or scientific principles to accomplish technical assignments to meet product specifications, quality standards, and regulations.

Essential Job Functions

Engineering Activities

- Performs engineering investigations involving calculations and/or tests in support of current products, products under development, new methods, new materials or process studies.

- Conducts product testing, evaluation and validation.

- Derives, interprets, and summarizes engineering test data. Prepares reports, charts, graphs, and other required documents.

- Investigates, resolves, and documents technical problems.

- Recommends and implements improvements and/or modifications in sequence of operations, equipment utilization and related matters.

- Monitors assigned operations to assure compliance with approved methods, quality standards and regulations.

- Performs failure analysis of instrument problems, and recommends possible design enhancements.

- Maintains product documentation to assure correct configuration.

- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Information Management & Reporting Activities

- On a regular basis, communicates with other department personnel providing important information regarding Product Engineering activities.

- Attends and participates in group meetings, task force groups, etc., as needed.

- Plans, coordinates and prepares reports, surveys, research information and any special requests made by management.

- Evaluates field failure reports to determine causes of problems and probability of failures.

Other Activities

- Work from oral/written instructions, sketches, diagrams from management.

- Implements methods and procedures for products and processes.

- Assists in editing operator and service manuals.

- Provides engineering support to Instrument Service and Technical Support departments.

- Assures that work areas are in an orderly and functional condition.

- Suggests improvement in departmental work processes and procedures.

- Maintains good communications both inside and outside of the Company.

- Performs special projects and other miscellaneous duties.

Essential Job Requirements

Education

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred) from a four year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience & Minimum Qualifications

- Zero to three years experience in electromechanical instrumentation.

- Bilingual Japanese/English required. Must be able to read, write and interpret engineering documents in Japanese to English and vice versa.

- Experience using test equipment efficiently.

- Experience with engineering documentation and support.

- Ability to use a personal computer and software for wordprocessing, spreadsheet and CAD.

- Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and summarize information and written materials.

- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures/manuals.

- Ability to effectively format and formally present technical information.

- Ability to effectively respond to technical questions.

- Ability to define problems, collect supporting data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical data, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
